Asthma is a chronic disease that currently is not “curable”. So the direct answer is no, one can not ever get rid of asthma. However, asthma is a very treatable disease, and the majority of people with asthma are able to lead active, productive normal lives as long as they adhere to their treatment program. Many asthmatics have excelled in arenas such as the Olympics and professional sports. Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Jerome Bettis are examples of champion athletes with asthma.
