There are 3 vital guidelines to consider when measuring for roller shades : Number one, employ a steel measuring tape instead of a material tape because the material tape will stretch ; 2nd, measure horizontally from left to right, and vertically from top to bottom ; third, measure and make a note the width first, then the length.

When measuring for blinds, you will measure differently for within mounted blinds than external mounted blinds.

When measuring for an inside mount, use the next laws : Measure from the top, or soffit ( the exposed bottom of the overhead ), to the bottom ( window sill ). A reduction of 1-1 / 8″ is taken from the width of the fabric in order for the shades to operate correctly. This creates a “light gap” of 9 / 16″ on all sides of the shade. Be actual and measure the opening at three different places ( i.e. Towards the top, towards the bottom and in the middle ). Then document the narrowest of the 3 measurements. Also, do not take your own repayments ; the factory will do this for you. This deduction is taken so that the shade does not rub against the window casing.

To make sure that the material doesn’t rub all along the brackets when the shades are raised and dropped, the hardware must be placed in such a fashion as to cause significant light gaps at the edge of the roller shades. This opening if normally wider with the clutch lift system than with the spring roller. If you don’t desire this gap, you may wish to consider an external mount for your roman window shades.

When measuring for an outside mount, it is best to have the shades overlap the window by at least 1- 0.5 ” on each side. When there is no window sill, the shade should overlap at the base of the window surrounding by at least 1- [*FR1″> “. You may wish to add 1″ to the final width if your fabric needs to cover a particular area for the reason that 1″ is automatically deducted from the width at the factory.
